Operator and scope
GEO Primer is operated by the GEO Primer Team. This privacy policy describes how we handle information across our guides, tools, and newsletter.
Reading the site
Public guides, terms, research notes, and checklists can be read without an account. Page and API requests reach the hosting service, which may process connection and request information as part of serving the site.
Free tools
The content structure checker is designed to analyze pasted text in the browser, without submitting that text to an analysis API. Do not paste confidential information into a shared device. The knowledge assessment uses versioned browser storage to resume progress; you can clear that progress. Assessment submissions send question selections for server-side scoring, not a name or account history.
Email preferences
The email form collects a normalized email address and the preferences you explicitly select: the GEO Primer newsletter, Page Lab updates, or both. Neither choice is selected by default. A pending request is kept separate from active consent, and no selected update becomes active until you use the confirmation button on the confirmation page.
Confirmation links use random tokens; the application stores SHA-256 token hashes rather than plaintext tokens and applies an expiry. Confirmation adds the selected preferences to any consent already active; it does not remove another active preference. A manage-preferences link supports stopping the newsletter, Page Lab updates, or all updates. An unsubscribe action invalidates older pending confirmations so they cannot silently reactivate consent.
The service stores the email address, active preference state, consent timestamps, pending-token records, and hashed request identifiers used for PostgreSQL-backed abuse throttling. A configured email delivery provider receives the address and confirmation message for delivery. Production does not expose confirmation tokens when delivery is unavailable.
Administration and optional services
Administrative sign-in is separate from public reading and free-tool use. Authentication uses session information and cookies for access control. Optional analytics, advertising, support, and email integrations must be disclosed and reviewed before they are enabled. Public template promotions are disabled in phase one.
