glossary
Observation log
A record of what was seen, kept separate from the conclusion drawn from it.
Scope
Editorial guidance for English-language marketing teams. Examples are illustrative, not measured results. No citation, ranking, traffic, or revenue outcome is guaranteed.
Meaning
An observation log preserves the context and result of an inspection. For AI-search work, useful fields include the exact prompt, timestamp, product and mode, cited URLs, name occurrences, and notes about uncertainty.
Keep evidence and interpretation separate
“The answer linked this URL” is an observation. “Our revision caused the link” is a causal interpretation requiring additional evidence. Store these in separate fields so reviewers can revisit the conclusion without rewriting the record.
Common mistake
Logging only successful appearances. Include absences and ambiguous results under the same counting rules. Protect confidential information and avoid collecting personal data merely to make the log look comprehensive.
Sources
Read the original material. A source link is not, by itself, proof of a claim.
