AI visibility

An umbrella term that needs a defined measure and sample.

By GEO Primer editorialPublished Reviewed

Scope

Editorial guidance for English-language marketing teams. Examples are illustrative, not measured results. No citation, ranking, traffic, or revenue outcome is guaranteed.

Meaning

AI visibility can refer to mentions, citations, answer coverage, or other measures of representation. Without a unit, denominator, product scope, and time window, the phrase is too ambiguous to compare meaningfully.

Make it concrete

Write “official-site citations in these recorded answers” rather than an unqualified visibility percentage. Keep aggregated platform telemetry separate from a manually collected prompt sample. They may cover different surfaces and populations.

Common mistake

Presenting a convenience sample as the share of all potential customer answers. A result can be useful within a narrow sample without estimating the wider market. Document the sampling limits alongside the result.
