Answer engine optimization (AEO)

A working label for making content answer a reader’s question clearly.

By GEO Primer editorialPublished Reviewed

Scope

Editorial guidance for English-language marketing teams. Examples are illustrative, not measured results. No citation, ranking, traffic, or revenue outcome is guaranteed.

Meaning

Here, AEO describes the editorial emphasis on an answer: what the reader needs to know, under which conditions, and with what support. It is a working vocabulary choice, not a formal platform requirement or a certification.

Example

A help page begins with the supported way to export a report, then states the required account permission and the formats available. That is more informative than a slogan about effortless reporting. The concise answer still needs the conditions that prevent a reader from applying it incorrectly.

Common mistake

Converting every page into dozens of short FAQs and removing context. Directness is useful when it preserves meaning. A short unsupported answer remains unsupported.

Sources

Read the original material. A source link is not, by itself, proof of a claim.
